Hello Everyone, By now those of you who have come here either via word of mouth or from links on other websites are probably wondering "why" are we doing all of this? There is one simple, easy quick cheap and nasty answer to that: We want to be able to legally ride trails in and around the city we live in. We want YOU to be able to legally ride trails where you live, no matter where that is. It seems that with all the pressures on our Parks and Forests, from development, over-use, misuse and just plain abuse, we are losing access to the trails and places we love. All this started when a group of us began chatting back and forth about this and related issues on a local club website . When things started to get interesting and vocal, we realized that we as a group were all are very passionate about these issues, and want to get other passionate people on board to say "hey, we want sustainable legal access to places to ride". Many of us are trail builders, advocates and volunteers locally, and feel that we are getting squeezed out. We have lost a lot of good trail and riding areas to logging, development, golf, and also to liability issues. We see the same things happening in other areas, and other countries, and want to do something about it... so came about "Mountainbikingisnotacrime.com" and the "Ride For Trails". Remember, we are NOT an organization, we are a collection or group of friends and we have one goal: To spread the word that we care, we are here, and we just want to build and ride trail! Thanks. Mission: Mountainbikingisnotacrime's mission is to increase public awareness of what mountain-bikers do to help sustain and care for trails, showing mountain-bikers broad demographic, and to draw attention to the inequity of trail cycling restrictions in BC by exerting political pressure on elected officials to draw their attention to these inequities. Mountainbikingisnotacrime is not an organization, only a group of like minded concerned riders who see the pressures of development, politics and population growth squeezing our access to trails and green-spaces. We believe in equal access for trail riding through the incorporation of smart management, cooperative relationships with MTB clubs, and transparency of decision making for public green-spaces. The “Ride for Trails” is our political statement. Riding our bicycles to the Legislature buildings in the capital of BC will give our politicians an idea of who we are, what we can do to help provide and enhance cycling access, and most importantly to give all riders a sense of community on a provincial level. We point to organized clubs and societies as the ones to deal with the developing of plans to enhance MTB access, and to implement stewardship relationships for the betterment of public green-spaces. Mountainbikingisnotacrime is a movement, not an organization. Riders can contribute by voting on our website, spreading the word on the “Ride For Trails”, and showing up on AUGUST 27 to Ride For Trails in downtown Victoria. (Location, times and details to be announced soon on this and many other regional websites)
